Seth Rogen and James Franco found themselves in an odd position in recent days when "The Interview," their silly comedy about the assassination of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, became an international lightning rod of controversy as Sony was attacked by hackers over the flick, and the studio eventually cancelled the film's release.
Now that Sony has finally come up with a new release strategy for the movie -- it will get a limited theatrical release on Christmas day (its original release date), as well as a simultaneous VOD release on a to-be-announced platform -- the stars have released public reactions to the news.
"The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed!" Rogen wrote on Twitter Tuesday. "Sony didn't give up!"

President Barack Obama had come to the film's defense in recent days, stating publicly that he felt Sony made the wrong decision when it initially cancelled the film's release following threats of violence from the hackers.
Franco followed up that post with a cheeky Instagram photo depicting him and Rogen taking part in a three-way kiss. Franco credited the president with saving the flick, captioning the picture, "CELEBRATING!!!!!"

Obama himself chimed in on the news Tuesday afternoon, as the White House released a statement applauding Sony's reversal. It reads:
The President applauds Sony's decision to authorize screenings of the film. As the President made clear, we are a country that believes in free speech, and the right of artistic expression. The decision made by Sony and participating theaters allows people to make their own choices about the film, and we welcome that outcome.
Evan Goldberg, who co-directed "The Interview" with Rogen, also took to Twitter to express his happiness over the development, thanking "everyone who didn't give up on our movie." Goldberg added that he and Rogen were "are humbled & overwhelmed by your support."

The second-to-last "Hunger Games" installment saw the franchise slowing down, focusing mostly on the political machinations associated with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and her decision to lead the underground rebellion in earnest. Action was in short supply in this entry; instead it was all about mood, tension, and unspoken sexual anxiety. (This was the first one without any actual, you know, games.) And yet it was just as thrilling, giving an even more rounded view of the dystopian future and the people personally affected by the ruling powers keeping the weak and poor under their boot. It's also a rousing call to arms, saying that those underneath that boot can (and should) rise up. Power to the people y'all. Hopefully everything explodes in the second installment, due next Thanksgiving, but even if it doesn't, another mood piece would be OK with me.
