2015 is going to be huge, both in the sense that there are a ton of movies coming out and the fact that most of the movies coming out are explosive studio tent poles that cost hundreds of millions of dollars and come loaded with a 777's worth of big time movie stars. Just look at our list of movies -- it's nearly doubled from last year, and crammed with superheroes, sentient robots, rampaging dinosaurs, and everything in between.

'Taken 3' (January 9th, 2015)

The least likely trilogy of all time concludes just as it began: with Liam Neeson, as a man with a shadowy past and a "particular set of skills," killing lots and lots of people. In this third "Taken" film (again directed by "Taken 2's" aptly named Olivier Megaton), Neeson's Bryan Mills is framed for the murder of his wife (Famke Janssen) and has to go on the run from the law while also clearing his name and figuring out who actually perpetrated the crime. So presumably no one will actually be "taken," but that's OK, as long as Neeson gets to run around and snap people's necks like they were poorly constructed toothpicks. This time, Forest Whitaker and Dougray Scott get in on the action (and Maggie Grace returns as Neeson's perpetually traumatized daughter), for what is sure to be an explosive conclusion.

?'Blackhat' (January 16th, 2015)

There has been endless news recently about hackers and cyber attacks, which makes "Blackhat," a new international thriller from "Heat" director Michael Mann even more timely and relevant. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth as the sexiest hacker of all time, who joins a joint Chinese-American task force to take down nefarious cyber terrorists. Based on the footage we saw at Comic-Con this past summer and the fact that Michael Mann is one of America's greatest living filmmakers, well, we are pretty stoked for this one. If anybody can make typing on a keyboard seem suspenseful and exciting, then it's probably Michael Mann.

?'Paddington' (January 16th, 2015)

Yes, that slightly weird teddy bear your British aunt got you has been turned into a feature-length film! The film is based on a series of children's books by Michael Bond, and features a who's who of British talent (seriously -- Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Jim Braodbent, Julie Walters, Matt Lucas, and Peter Capaldi all make appearances, while Ben Whishaw, Michael Gambon, and Imelda Staunton all lend their voices), with the villainous Millicent being essayed by none other than Nicole Kidman. Considering how few and far between quality family films are these days, hopefully "Paddington" will be a warm, cuddly entertainment that will thaw out even the wintriest days.

?'The Wedding Ringer' (January 16th, 2015)

What happens if you're scheduled to get married but don't have a best man? Well, that's the premise behind "The Wedding Ringer," a high concept comedy that stars Kevin Hart and Josh Gad. In the film, Gad is scheduled to marry Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, but can't find a best man, which leads him to enlist the help of Hart, who assists in these kind of situations (apparently this is a more widespread problem than you would have anticipated); comedic misadventures ensue. While the promotional materials thus far make it look pretty formulaic, hopefully the inspired buddy pairing of Hart and Gad will help the movie transcend. Either way, it should be worth a few giggles.

?'Black Sea' (January 23rd, 2015)

If you have a fear of enclosed spaces or the ocean, then chances are you should stay away from "Black Sea," the latest film from director Kevin Macdonald ("The Last King of Scotland," "Marley"). In this modern day oceanic adventure, Jude Law plays a recently fired submarine captain who is contracted by a mysterious backer to lead a team to the bottom of the ocean in search of a sunken Nazi war ship carrying a large stockpile of gold. Things, of course, go horribly awry, with the members of the crew (among them: Scott McNairy and Ben Mendelsohn) eventually turning on one another as greed takes over completely. We've already seen this movie and it is intense.

?'The Boy Next Door' (January 23rd, 2015)

There used to be an abundance of what were typically described as "erotic thrillers;" movies made for adults that usually featured a fair amount of sex and violence (and preposterous plot twists as well). They were cheaply produced and could be hugely profitable. But now most movies are made and marketed towards 13-year-old boys and the erotic thriller is only revived intermittently. Thankfully, "The Boy Next Door," the latest from low budget producer Jason Blum, will scratch that itch in early 2015. The film features a soapy plot involving a small town teacher (Jennifer Lopez) who has a torrid affair with a student (Ryan Guzman) with disastrous consequences. The trailer makes it look snappy and fun and there isn't a superhero in sight (thank god).

?'Mortdecai' (January 23rd, 2015)

Why yes, it has been a few weeks since Johnny Depp has donned hilarious facial hair and spoken in a stereotypical accent. In "Mortdecai," based on a series of cult novels by Kyril Bonfiglioli, Depp plays Charlie Mortdecai, a mustachioed art dealer who gets embroiled in an international mystery. While the character may be largely unknown in the states, there is still plenty to entice American moviegoers, including allure of an all-star cast (including Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bettany), ace behind-the-scenes talent (director David Koepp is a close Steven Spielberg confederate and the score was co-written by current chart topper Mark Ronson) and a trailer that emphasizes its wacky, "Pink Panther"-esque sensibilities. This could be really, really fun.

?'Strange Magic' (January 23rd, 2015)

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm from George Lucas back in 2012, they also inadvertently adopted "Strange Magic," an animated pet project of Lucas's that is loosely based on William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" but populated by magical woodland creatures (voiced by Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, and Maya Rudolph). While the trailer gives off a weird vibe, the movie has prestige to spare -- it was directed by longtime sound designer Gary Rydstrom (who has also directed two shorts for Pixar) and co-written by Irene Mecchi, who co-scripted Pixar's "Brave." Rydstrom has compared the movie, which was animated by Industrial Light & Magic and a Lucasfilm animation facility that handles the terrific "Star Wars: Rebels," to Lucas's Jim Henson film "Labyrinth," and it's easy to see why: both are odd and full of, well, strange magic. So if this movie isn't a hit out of the gate, expect it to achieve cult status soon after.

?'Project Almanac' (January 30th, 2015)

So far the found footage genre has tackled superheroes, wild parties, and ghosts (lots and lots of ghosts). But for "Project Almanac," the format is being used in the service of a time travel story, about a group of teens who unlock untold mysteries related to the space/time continuum. We saw this movie way back at Comic-Con last summer, and remember it being a genuinely fun romp, sort of like "Back to the Future" meets "Project X."

?'Jupiter Ascending' (February 6th, 2015)

Originally scheduled for release last summer, "Jupiter Ascending" was pushed back to due to more time needed in completing its complex visual effects. Normally this would seem like a copout, but considering the movie is the latest science fiction wonder from The Wachowskis, creators of "The Matrix," well, it makes the excuse seem a lot more legitimate. The film concerns a half-wolf bounty hunter (Channing Tatum) who travels to Earth to find Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), an unsuspecting human who also happens to be galactic royalty. While the movie's marketing materials stress its intergalactic seriousness, the movie seems to fit more tonally with something like "The Princess Bride," at turns wacky and sincere. Quite frankly the Wachowskis are some of the more intriguing big time filmmakers in Hollywood, making films that are stranger and more ambitious than just about anybody else. We're ready to be beamed up.

?'Seventh Son' (February 6th, 2015)

Originally scheduled to be released in February of 2013, this fantasy film (based on a popular young adult novel) features Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Julianne Moore, and Alicia Vikander, as well as all manner of fantastical medieval beast. While the trailers make this movie seem nearly identical to every midlevel fantasy blockbuster in recent memory ("47 Ronin," "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters," "Snow White and the Huntsman"), we're hoping that Russian director Sergei Bodrov ("Mongol") will lend the film some gritty texture and that Bridges will once again ply potentially unsophisticated material with wacky, off-the-wall humor. Or who knows, maybe it could get delayed another year.

?'SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water' (February 6th, 2015)

The first weekend in February has become a big one for children's movies -- winter vacation is in full effect and the Christmas releases have become stale. When "The Lego Movie" opened to enormous box office last February, that fact was cemented: early February is key. That's the thinking, at least, in opening "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water," the $66 million sequel to 2004's "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" (yes, it was almost 11 years ago), in the chilly days of winter. The twist this time around is that SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and his Bikini Bottom crew are transported to our world (with new, 3D computer animation from Industrial Light & Magic) and forced to battle an evil pirate (Antonio Banderas) who has stolen the secret recipe to the Crabby Patty. It'll be interesting to see if the property has as much juice as it did a decade ago; and if this first weekend in February really is the holy grail for family films.

?'Fifty Shades of Grey' (February 13th, 2015)

The book you're uncomfortable with knowing that your mother probably read is getting the big screen treatment, in an adaptation that ranks somewhere in the "Da Vinci Code"/"Bonfire of the Vanities" level of anticipation (and possible failure). The story of "Fifty Shades of Grey" is legendary: author E.L. James started the novel as "Twilight" fan fiction, posting bondage-heavy passages on message boards. When she eventually published the altered stories (the vampire became a young billionaire, etc), as a trilogy, it became a "literary" sensation, the kind of thing that everyone was reading even if they didn't admit that they were. It'll be interesting to see if the movie, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson from a script by "Saving Mr. Banks" writer Kelly Marcel, will maintain the same level of sexual intensity as the books (if it does we could be looking at the first mainstream NC-17 release since "Showgirls"). Either way, expect stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan to become big, big stars, with doms and subs of all shapes and sizes coming out to watch the Valentine's Day release.

?'Kingsman: The Secret Service' (February 13th, 2015)

Of the 2015 movies we've already seen, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" is undoubtedly our favorite -- a brilliantly subversive take on the spy genre that also sets itself up to be the beginning of a compelling new franchise. Based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, "Kingsman" concerns a troubled youth (Taron Egerton) who is recruited into an elite spy organization and trained by a spy played by Colin Firth (yes, he can kick ass). The less you know about the movie, the better, but we can reveal that Samuel L. Jackson plays a lisping super-villain and that the action sequences have a blood-splattered vibrancy that is totally in keeping with director Matthew Vaughn's filmography ("Layer Cake," "Kick-Ass"). This is one of our favorite films in recent memory and we can't wait for it to come out just so we can watch it again.

'Hot Tub Time Machine 2' (February 20th, 2015)

Yes, apparently there was some kind of demand for a sequel to 2010's "Hot Tub Time Machine." This time around Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke (John Cusack is nowhere to be found but Adam Scott plays his adult son for some reason) get involved in some kind of murder mystery that sends them into the future. We feel dumber for having written that last sentence so god knows what actually watching this movie will do to us.

?'McFarland, USA' (February 20th, 2015)

The "based on a true story sports movie" is a genre that Disney handles with charm and finesse. They usually feature a great centerpiece role for an actor that's maybe a little past their prime (in this case Kevin Costner), have a fair amount of spiritual uplift, and generally make you feel good. "McFarland, USA" is no exception and is, in fact, one of the very best of these sports movies that Disney has released. This mostly has to do with Costner's finely honed performance, the interesting subject matter (about a group of Latino high school students in the '80s who became track champions) and filmmaker Niki Caro's delicate direction (she did "Whale Rider"). This is a captivating, heart-tugging, jazzy little movie that emphasizes the character's Mexican heritage and the adversity they faced in running to the top (see what we did there?) Hopefully this film doesn't get lost in the shuffle like last year's similarly wonderful "Million Dollar Arm" did. (Seriously -- if you haven't watched that; do so now.) Couldn't they have done something about the terrible title, though?

?'Focus' (February 27th, 2015)

Will Smith is back... and he's not battling aliens. (Whew!) Instead, he's embroiled in a romantic heist film from "Crazy Stupid Love" directors Gleen Ficarra and John Requa, and instead of some snarling, computer-generated abomination, he's facing down the lovely and talented Margot Robbie ("Wolf of Wall Street"). All of the trailers for "Focus" have been really involving -- and it's been a while since we've had a really great heist movie, much less one anchored by stars as charismatic as Smith and Robbie. Here's hoping that they pull off this particular con.

?'Everly' (February 27th, 2015)

Imagine if "Die Hard" had been remade, with Salma Hayek in the starring role, and you'll get a sense of what "Everly" is like. It's a contained action thriller, with Hayek essaying the role of a prostitute who attempts to leave her Japanese mob bosses, narc them out to the authorities, and leave town with her daughter and mother -- all on the same day (sometime during Christmas). We saw this film back at Fantastic Fest and thought it was a lot of hyper-stylized fun, with Hayek turning in a great performance and director Joe Lynch maintaining an unbelievable amount of tension throughout the entire 92-minute run time. Don't mess with Salma, y'all.

?'Chappie' (March 6th, 2015)

Director Neil Blomkamp, who made an international splash with his debut feature "District 9" (before directing the much larger, and more muddled, "Elysium"), returns to South Africa and the sharp science fiction satire of his first film for "Chappie," about a robot (Sharlto Copley) who gains consciousness. The trailer for "Chappie" is dynamite and the cast is strange and spot-on (it features everyone from Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver to members of South African shock rap outfit Die Antwoord). It's a testament to Blomkamp's limitless potential that even after a movie as boring and unfocused as "Elysium," that we can be this excited about his next film. Also: the robot looks really, really cute.

'The Coup' (March 6th, 2015)

In this action thriller (said to be in the vein of "Taken"), a group of Americans (Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan and Lake Bell) are in a hostile foreign country when a coup breaks out and they are forced to hide and try to escape before they become the coup's newest victims. That's a nifty concept, for sure, and the filmmakers and the Dowdle brothers (John Eric and Drew), who have played around with high concepts and small budgets for the last few years with great success (they directed the underrated thriller "Devil" and last August's found footage horror "As Above, So Below"). Here's hoping that with an increased budget and a starry cast, they can accomplish even more.

'Unfinished Business' (March 6th, 2015)

The trailer for "Unfinished Business" (available in an all-ages appropriate model and a more explicit red band version) makes this comedy seem like a "Hangover"-style marathon of debauchery, which it could very well be. But we'd like to think that the film, which stars Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson as a trio of low-rent businessmen attempting to secure the deal of their lives in Germany, will have a little more on its mind than bong hits and sexual positions. That's because Steven Conrad, who wrote "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway" and "The Weather Man" and who wrote and directed the underrated little comedy "The Promotion," which tackled similar thematic ground, furnished the script. It's Conrad's involvement that could elevate this to another level altogether, something that Vaughn, who has been aching for a hit, certainly hopes for too.

?'Cinderella' (March 13th, 2015)

The latest Disney animated-to-live-action adaptation is "Cinderella," based on the classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault but more importantly on the 1950 animated smash of the same name. (It rescued Disney from dire financial straits and contributed to its legacy of identifiable princess characters.) This time around, Lily James stars as the title character, while Cate Blanchett chews the immaculately constructed scenery as the Wicked Stepmother and Helena Bonham Carter vamps it up as the Fairy Godmother. ("Game of Thrones" alum Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgard, Derek Jacobi, and Hayley Atwell all contribute supporting roles.) As directed by Kenneth Branagh, "Cinderella" is sure to have epic scope and unforgettable visuals; if we had been allowed to see an early cut of the film we would say that "Cinderella" triumphs spectacularly where something like "Maleficent" failed. This is classic Disney, through and through.

?'In the Heart of the Sea' (March 13th, 2015)

Based on Nathaniel Philbrick's 2000 nonfiction book of the same name, "In the Heart of the Sea" is the retelling of the sinking of the whaling vessel Essex, a nightmarish story that would eventually form the basis of Herman Melville's immortal classic "Moby-Dick." Chris Hemsworth leads the crew of the Essex, along with Cillian Murphy, Benjamin Walker, and Tom Holland (Ben Wishaw plays Melville), and the film was directed by Ron Howard, who just worked with Hemsworth on the brilliant "Rush" (another true-life tale). Howard is great at making historical accounts feel harrowing and new (see: "Apollo 13") and the trailers for the film have been absolutely white-knuckle. If you were wary about getting into the ocean before, well...

?'Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension' (March 13th, 2015)

This is the first "Paranormal Activity" film since last winter's Latin-themed "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" and the first proper installment since 2012's "Paranormal Activity 4." Not much is known about this entry, besides the ludicrous subtitle, although it appears that Katie Featherston, a franchise mainstay since the first film, will reprise her role as Katie. Hopefully the series will get away from the unnecessarily complicated "mythology" of the fourth film and get back to old-fashioned spookiness.

?'The Divergent Series: Insurgent' (March 20th, 2015)

Last year's YA sci-fi film "Divergent" apparently made enough money to warrant a sequel, in the form of "Insurgent," based on the next book in the series. This one again features Shailene Woodley as a young girl in a dystopian society that categorizes you based on your emotional temperament. The original cast returns (including Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, and Jai Courtney), along with newcomers like Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Suki Waterhouse, Rosa Salazar, and Daniel Dae Kim. Fans of the series should be pleased, as this installment seems to delve deeper in the world established in the first film, with a greater emphasis on mood and action. But do we really have to call it "The Divergent Series: Insurgent"? What a mouthful!

?'The Gunman' (March 20th, 2015)

Sean Penn goes full dadcore in this international production (based on a novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette). Penn plays the titular gunman who wants to leave his life of espionage, although his employers (led by Javier Bardem) have other plans. Isn't that always the case? The cast for "The Gunman" is terrific (Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, and Mark Rylance co-star), with direction from Pierre Morel, the French filmmaker and Luc Besson protégé who helmed the original "Taken." This might be the kind of film that you forget as soon as you leave the theater, but while you're watching it, you'll probably be having a great time.

?'Get Hard' (March 27th, 2015)

If our entire understanding of "Get Hard" came from the theatrical poster, which has Kevin Hart giving Will Ferrell cornrows, accompanied by the tag line "An education in incarceration," then we'd still be there opening day. But the trailer for the R-rated comedy is deliriously funny (it also features Alison Brie in lingerie, which is never a bad thing) and, oh yeah, did we mention that the plotline involves Ferrell's white collar criminal taking lessons in how to "get hard" for prison from his carwash guy (Hart), who isn't technically an actual thug? This could be a new pee-your-pants classic.

'Home' (March 27th, 2015)

DreamWorks Animation is in desperate need of a hit. The former Disney challenger and home to the "Shrek" and "Kung Fu Panda" franchises, hasn't had a genuine smash in a very long time (even this summer's "How to Train Your Dragon 2" failed to meet expectations and unlike their last few films, that one actually made the company money) and "Home" seems adorable but kind of a tough sell. An intergalactic buddy comedy (think "The Iron Giant" or "Lilo & Stitch") centered around a gooey little alien named Oh (Jim Parsons) who befriends a human girl named Tip (Rihanna) while his race (led by Steve Martin) looks to colonize Earth, the film was directed by longtime DreamWorks Animation vet Tim Johnson ("Antz," "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas," "Over the Hedge") and based on the 2007 children's book "The True Meaning of Smekday" by Adam Rex. Rihanna supposedly contributes an album's worth of new songs to the film, which opens a whole new world of synergistic possibilities, and we're looking forward to a really-for-real new DreamWorks Animation property (the three films in 2014 were either sequels or adaptations of already-existing brands). This might not get them back in the game entirely, but it sure does look cute.

?'Serena' (March 27th, 2015)

Finally. "Serena," an adaptation of a Ron Rash novel about a logging baron and his temperamental wife (who eventually descends, like so many logs, into full-on madness), began life as a Darren Aronofsky project, since there's nothing Aronofsky loves more than someone descending into madness, with Angelina Jolie in the title role. When Aronofsky dropped out so did Jolie, who was promptly replaced with Jennifer Lawrence. Oscar-winning Danish director Susanne Bier stepped in for Aronofsky, and Lawrence suggested Bradley Cooper for the role of the logging baron. Filming took place from March to May in 2012, which is before the "Silver Linings Playbook" duo reunited for "American Hustle." After 18 months of arduous post-production and more than a year after "American Hustle" was actually released, we finally get to see "Serena." Word is that the film is neither the masterpiece that it could have been (potentially) or the out-and-out flop that many feared. Considering most audiences would watch Lawrence and Cooper eat breakfast for two hours, there probably isn't much to worry about.

?'Furious 7' (April 3rd, 2015)

Originally scheduled for release last summer, "Furious 7" was almost permanently derailed due to the tragic death of star Paul Walker in November of 2013. That led to much hand-wringing and dramatic rewrites and reshoots (Walker was only halfway through filming his role, his two brothers were brought in to assist and Peter Jackson's effects house Weta, contracted to do extensive work). What was originally supposed to be a quick, cheap, down-and-dirty sequel, arriving less than a year after the previous installment, became a drawn-out epic and, all told, one of the most expensive films in the history of Hollywood. Joining returning favorites Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Michelle Rodriguez are new cast members Kurt Russell, Tony Jaa, Djimon Hounsou, and Jason Statham (as baddie Ian Shaw). The trailer for the sequel was out-of-control bonkers, and we've heard that new director James Wan (previously known for his horror films "Saw" and "The Conjuring") is pushing the franchise in some truly interesting directions. No matter how the movie turns out, it will be wonderful (if someone bittersweet) to see Walker in the franchise that made him a household name... one last time.

?'The Longest Ride' (April 10th, 2015)

This is shaping up to be 2015's premiere weepy, a romantic drama based on a 2013 Nicholas Sparks novel (of course) that stars "Tomorrowland" lead Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood. It features the whole parallel love story structure that made Sparks' "The Notebook" a three-tissue staple; prepare to sob.

?'Ex Machina' (April 10th, 2015)

Alex Garland was a cult novelist whose chance run-in with British filmmaker Danny Boyle, first when Boyle adapted his novel "The Beach" and then when he tasked Garland with updating the zombie genre with "28 Days Later," turned Garland into a science fiction screenwriter par excellence. (Garland wrote the excellent "Sunshine" for Boyle and penned adaptations of "Never Let Me Go" and "Dredd.") "Ex Machina" is Garland's directorial debut, a tale of a weirdo CEO (Oscar Isaac) who tasks an employee (Domhnall Gleeson) with interacting with a new form of artificial intelligence (Alicia Vikander). It's heady science fiction, for sure, but the trailer suggests that it plays out more as a cooped up psychosexual thriller than a movie obsessed with ones and zeros and cool robots. (Which isn't to say the robot, named Ava, isn't cool; she was designed by leading comic book illustrator Jock.) Not only does this look like riveting entertainment, but it will be fun to see Isaac and Gleeson together in a small scale science fiction movie before they appear in a much bigger one: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

?'Child 44' (April 17th, 2015)

Tom Hardy reteams with his "The Drop" costar Noomi Rapace for "Child 44," a new thriller from "Safe House" director Daniel Espinosa, based on Tom Rob Smith's best-selling historical thriller of the same name. Hardy plays Leo Demidov, an investigator in Soviet Russia on the hunt for a notorious child murderer (Rapace plays his wife and investigative partner). The premise is fascinating (seriously – look up the real life murders that inspired the book, the guy was nicknamed the Red Ripper), the time period perfect, the supporting cast beyond reproach (among them: Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Vincent Cassel, Dev Patel, and Paddy Considine) and the behind-the-scenes talent top notch (Richard Price provided the screenplay, Phillippe Rousselot the cinematography). This could also be the beginning of a rarity in Hollywood -- a big franchise for adults (the character appeared in two more novels, forming a trilogy). Imagine that!

?'Monkey Kingdom' (April 17th, 2015)

Disney's nature documentaries (always timed to Earth Day and almost always focused around a specific animal breed) have become an annual tradition. The latest film (released under the Dinseynature imprint) is called "Monkey Kingdom" and it looks totally adorable, zeroing in on a group of monkeys that travel from the jungles to the more populated areas around Sri Lanka (super nerds will probably remember Sri Lanka as the home, in later years, to Arthur C. Clarke, author of "2001: A Space Odyssey"). This will be really, really cute.

?'Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2' (April 17th, 2015)

It's a sequel to "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," set in Las Vegas. Next.

?'Run All Night' (April 17th, 2015)

Nobody can kick ass these days with more surefire efficiency than Liam Neeson (see also: "Taken 3") and he has seemingly found his soul mate (in mayhem) in Jaume Collet-Serra, an accomplished filmmaker and premiere stylist who saw Neeson through "Unknown," "Non-Stop" and, now, "Run All Night." This is the story of a hitman (Neeson) who has to face down his boss in order to protect his family. While that synopsis hardly seems revolutionary, Collet-Serra can infuse energy and fun into virtually any scenario, and with a stellar supporting cast that includes Joel Kinnaman, Genesis Rodriguez, Vincent D'Onofrio, Common, and Ed Harris, this should be a cut above. [Insert joke/pun here about how Liam Neeson will "cut above" a bunch of bad guys.]

?'The Age of Adaline' (April 24th, 2015)

This magical drama at least gets points for its wacky, WTF-worthy plot, concerning a young woman (Blake Lively), who, following a bizarre car crash, is 27-years-old for the next eight decades. Uh. OK. The trailer for this film is odd but alluring, with Lively finally being given the chance to anchor a movie with a meaty lead role. The cast is super interesting too, with supporting roles filled by Harrison Ford, Ellen Burstyn, and Kathy Baker. This could be a fantastic, "Curious Case of Benjamin Button"-esque romance that resonates even while it confounds. Or it could be more like last year's "Winter's Tale," drowned in its own earnestness.

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (May 1st, 2015)

This might be the most anticipated superhero epic ever, reuniting Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), along with new heroes Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and The Vision (Paul Bettany), as they team up to take down the villainous android Ultron (James Spader). Having visited the set last summer, we can safely assure you that this is going to be epic -- giant battles, internal struggle, robots galore. (The billion dollar-grossing original film will seem quaint by comparison, both in terms of scale and the amount of money that it's going to make versus its predecessor.) If it turns out that this is writer-director Joss Whedon's exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, well, you can at least bet that he's going out with a bang.

'Mad Max: Fury Road' (May 8th, 2015)

If there was one presentation at last summer's San Diego Comic Con that had us picking our jaws up off the floor, then it was the footage screened from "Mad Max: Fury Road," director George Miller's first entry in the franchise in more than a quarter of a century. Tom Hardy steps into the dusty shoes of Mel Gibson as "Mad" Max Rockatansky, a survivor in a post-apocalyptic wasteland ruled by madmen, cannibals, and lunatics. Charlize Theron plays Imperator Furiosa, a woman warrior with a bionic arm, and Nicholas Hoult is Nux. The footage we've seen is so huge, so genuinely spectacular (with tons of actual practical effects), that it doesn't just leave you awestruck; it leaves you positively transformed. (And from a franchise everybody thought was more or less done.) If you haven't seen the insane trailers, do so now, but just know one thing: once you see it, your excitement will be at dangerously high levels that not even powerful pharmaceuticals can subdue.

'Pitch Perfect 2' (May 8th, 2015)

Acca-cuse me? Yes, you heard right -- there's a sequel coming to everyone's favorite competitive a cappella movie. Everyone from the first film, a surprise hit that also spawned a No. 1 single in the annoying ubiquitous "Cups" (how anyone can complain about "Let It Go" after that thing having radio dominance is beyond us), is back for a second go-around, including Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, and this time the stakes are higher since the competition has moved out of the college arena and onto the world stage. Maybe coolest of all, Elizabeth Banks, who co-starred in the first film (don't worry, she's back) and shepherded the project as one of its producers, returns to make her directorial debut. Talk about stepping your game up.

'Spy' (May 22nd, 2015)

Paul Feig loves his female-led comedies. The director of "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat" (both smashes and defies typical studio wisdom that regularly pushes male-driven fare) is about to re-launch the "Ghostbusters" franchise with a team of lady supernatural investigators, first wants to reinvent the spy genre with the aptly titled "Spy." (Trend alert! Keep in mind that this is the second subversive spy movie of 2015, after February's "Kingsman.") Feig has cast his frequent collaborator Melissa McCarthy as an unassuming analyst who has to assume a James Bond persona after her partner goes missing (one that, presumably, falls down a lot more often than James Bond); other plot details are wisely being kept under wraps. We weren't super happy with "The Heat," but we believe in Feig and McCarthy and support their quest for diversifying established genres in a big, big way, especially with a cast that includes Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, and Jude Law!

'Tomorrowland' (May 22nd, 2015)

This is one of the most exciting movies of 2015, at least in our eyes, even if we're not entirely sure what it's even about. The notoriously secretive project originally hatched by "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof and Entertainment Weekly writer Jeff Jensen (dreams do come true!) and later taken over by insanely brilliant director Brad Bird involves an imaginary world called Tomorrowland that is somehow tied in with the futuristic landscape of the Walt Disney theme parks. (Seriously -- one of the portals to this alternate reality is the it's a small world attraction at the 1964 World's Fair and production filmed at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.) George Clooney plays a reclusive inventor, Britt Robertson is a young girl who inadvertently becomes obsessed with traveling to Tomorrowland and Hugh Laurie is the bad guy who has let the world fall into disrepair. In addition to the moody teaser trailer, we saw a complete sequence from the film at this year's New York Comic Con and were blown away -- the scene featured robotic henchman attacking Clooney's terrestrial home and it was so witty and fun and thrilling. The same ingenuity and creativity that made Bird's "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" an unequivocal masterpiece is back... in full effect. We can't wait.

'San Andreas' (May 29th, 2015)

Is there anything that The Rock can't do? In "San Andreas," Dwayne Johnson plays an LA fire fighter helicopter pilot, which we're pretty amazed is a real thing (is it?) who travels to San Francisco after a cataclysmic earthquake to rescue his daughter ("True Detective" breakout Alexa Daddario). The trailer promises some big action set pieces and some classic disaster movie imagery and there's enough behind-the-scenes oddness to keep us interested (like how Australian pop star Kylie Minogue is part of the cast and that there are no fewer than seven credited screenwriters who have all had their hands on this thing at one time or another, including "Lost" show runner Carlton Cuse). This might be one of the few movies in 2015 worth paying the surcharge to see in 3D, too, especially since director Brad Peyton, while not exactly an auteur, has a history with the format, having helmed 2012's "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," a movie that, mystifyingly, also starred The Rock.

'Entourage' (June 5th, 2015)

Not really sure who was itching for more stories in the "Entourage"-verse, but after eight seasons and nearly 100 episodes (the last aired in September of 2011), your favorite group of misogynistic Hollywood hangers-on are back. Not even a cameo from Liam Neeson as himself can get us to care much about this; we're pretty sure the trailer alone set back feminism a good 25 years. But hey somebody had to really, really want an "Entourage" movie or they wouldn't have made it. Right?

'Jurassic World' (June 12th, 2015)

Ready to go back to the park? More than 20 years after Steven Spielberg's original "Jurassic Park" (a stone cold classic, even after an unnecessary 3D conversion) comes a bold new sequel that introduces a twist that audiences have been dying to see since the first film -- the park, open and fully functional. In the years since the first three films, Jurassic Park has been open to guests, regularly dazzling them with their genetically engineered dinosaurs. But public interest has waned. Which leads the powers that be to create something newer, scarier, and, of course, more deadly. Considering these movies are all about the folly of man's hubris, this mutant dinosaur gets out and starts doing very bad things to guests and employees alike. That leaves Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, to take command and stop this marauding monster, using the help of the domesticated dinosaurs of the park. Colin Trevorrow, who last helmed the nifty independent sci-fi comedy "Safety Not Guaranteed," makes his studio debut with the project (it co-stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson, Judy Greer, and BD Wong, reprising his role from the first film), which seems like the perfect take on the material to once again get people super jazzed about all things "Jurassic Park." Now can the Universal theme park ride just get a little TLC? Last time we went on it that T. Rex was looking a little tired.

'Inside Out' (June 19th, 2015)

2014 was the first year since the 18 month gap between "The Incredibles" and "Cars" that a new Pixar feature film wasn't in theaters. And we really felt it. Thankfully, 2015 will be the first year that two new Pixar movies grace multiplexes everywhere; the first of which is the gorgeous looking "Inside Out." The film takes place inside the mind of a young girl and the main characters are all her emotions -- there's Joy (Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). While the movie is slightly more conceptual than, say, a "Monsters, Inc" prequel set in college, it's very relatable and from what we've seen it might be the most emotional Pixar movie since director Pete Docter's last movie, 2009's "Up." For a better grasp on what the movie will really be like, watch the newest trailer, which zooms into the minds of both of the young girl's parents, for a sense of just how hilarious and imaginative this movie is really going to be. Two years ago, when we saw footage in insanely rough form, we were pretty sure it was going to be a masterpiece; now that we're just a few months away, it's more or less guaranteed.

'Ted 2' (June 26th, 2015)

Details are scare for this sequel to one of the highest grossing R-rated comedies of all time, but we'll tell you what we do know: Seth McFarlane returns as a co-writer, director, and the voice of the titular stuffed bear, as does Mark Wahlberg, while Amanda Seyfried replaces Mila Kunis as the female lead. Beyond that, there has been some speculation about celebrity cameos (including but not limited to Tom Brady and Liam Neeson) and this recent photo of Ted and Wahlberg scuba diving. Besides that, you can probably guarantee some raunchy humor and pop culture references a-plenty.

'Magic Mike XXL' (July 1st, 2015)

Get your dollar bills ready, ladies -- the boys from "Magic Mike" will be thrusting anew in "Magic Mike XXL" (is this maybe the greatest sequel title ever?) In the sequel to the 2012 film, the strippers (including Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, and Kevin Nash) take a road trip from Tampa to a stripping convention in Myrtle Beach. Like the first film, it's loosely based on an autobiographical aside from Tatum's male stripper past, but unlike the first film, Steven Soderbergh, who retired from feature filmmaking shortly after the original was released, won't direct it. (He will, however, shoot and edit it.) No matter who is behind the camera, this should be an absolute blast and a lovely, R-rated break from all the kiddie movies and superhero shenanigans.

'Terminator: Genisys' (July 1st, 2015)

They have been trying for years to successfully relaunch the "Terminator" franchise. Since James Cameron's immortal classics "The Terminator" and "T2: Judgment Day," there have been two middling, Cameron-free sequels and a lame television series that ran for a couple of seasons without anyone much caring. "Terminator: Genisys" is the latest and most expensive attempt at recapturing the magic from those earlier films, which many involved with the production have described as a prequel, sequel, and reboot. Uh. Sounds confusing. In this new film, Emilia Clarke from "Game of Thrones" takes on the role of Sarah Connor, while Jason Clarke essays John Connor, Jai Courtney is Kyle Reese and Lee Byung-hun is the T-1000. The only returning favorite is, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger, once again providing the role of the titular robotic killing machine. The first trailer was cool enough, although it's still super unclear how this is supposed to fit in with the other movies and what, exactly, it's resetting. Still, the franchise is overdue for a freshening up and the cast includes Matt Smith and J.K. Simmons, so it's hard to dismiss it completely out of hand. Hopefully the film will be less muddled than its marketing materials.

'Minions' (July 10th, 2015)

This is a prequel movie devoted to those funny little yellow guys from the "Despicable Me" films. We'll probably laugh harder than we'll ever publicly admit. The film is set in the '60s and features voice work by Jon Hamm and Sandra Bullock. And don't worry -- a proper "Despicable Me 3" is out in the summer of 2017.

'Ant-Man' (July 17th, 2015)

After "The World's End" filmmaker Edgar Wright toiled away on the film for nearly a decade, a last minute disagreement between Marvel and the director left "Ant-Man" without a captain, with mere weeks before filming was set to begin. (Supposedly the disagreement lied in the script's connectedness to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.) In the scramble, the screenplay received a fresh coat of paint courtesy of Will Ferrell confederate Adam McKay and Peyton Reed, director of "Bring It On" (who had shepherded an aborted version of "Fantastic Four" earlier in his career), came aboard to direct. This latest superhero romp features Paul Rudd stars as Scott Lang, a petty criminal who is giving the ability to shrink down to the size of (and communicate with) ants; Cory Stoll is the baddie, Yellowjacket, and Michael Douglas is the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, who invents the serum that allows for all this insect-related madness to take place. "Ant-Man" is far from a household name, but if "Guardians of the Galaxy" taught us anything, it's that audiences are more than willing to go to the wilder and weirder corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here's hoping for the best.

'Trainwreck' (July 17th, 2015)

In a rather large change of pace, comedic kingpin Judd Apatow is directing a movie that he didn't write. Instead, the movie's leading lady, Amy Schumer, penned the script. Plot specifics have yet to be revealed, but the film is set in New York (we know because we kept wandering by filming locations last summer) and has a genuinely incredible cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Bill Hader, Colin Quinn, Brie Larson, and Daniel Radcliffe. Quite frankly, we think a new creative collaborator would do Apatow good, and for him to step out of his comfort zone like this you know that the script must have been gangbusters.

'Pan' (July 24th, 2015)

Have you ever wondered how Peter Pan got to Neverland and what the events were that led to him guiding a troop of perpetually youthful wildlings and battling a one-handed pirate? Well, "Pan" will answer those questions. Some of them, anyway. We visited the set last summer and while we can't reveal too many details, we can say that this thing is going to be spectacular. As directed by Joe Wright, whose rococo visions have turned "Hanna" and "Anna Karenina" into modern masterpieces, this "Pan" imagines young Peter (newcomer Levi Miller) as he is abducted by pirates led by Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) and whisked away to the fantastical world of Neverland, populated by wild natives (led by Rooney Mara's Tiger Lily), mermaids and James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), sporting both hands. (Don't worry, Tick Tock the crocodile is there, a huge, ferocious, albino monster, so we doubt that Hook will make it through the entire movie with both hands.) Wright's vision for the Peter Pan mythology will set it apart; everything we saw was almost painfully gorgeous and mind-blowing.

'Pixels' (July 24th, 2015)

When aliens misinterpret decades-old videogame signals as hostile messages, they send giant-sized versions of classic arcade characters to destroy its population, leading the president (Kevin James) to enlist the aid of some arcade champions (Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad) to defeat the alien menace. Yes, there was an episode of "Futurama" with almost the exact same plotline (featuring one of the series' more immortal quotes: "All right. It's Saturday night, I have no date, a two-liter bottle of Shasta and my all-Rush mix tape... Let's rock.") This could be high concept fun, especially under the guidance of director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two "Harry Potter" movies and wrote the script for the first "Gremlins."

'Poltergeist' (July 24th, 2015)

They're heeeeeeeere. Again. The "Poltergeist" franchise, which began with 1982's original, still-amazing "Poltergeist" (directed by "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" legend Tobe Hooper and co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg) and spanned two sequels and a long-running cable series, will now officially get the reboot treatment. This new film was directed by "Monster House" filmmaker Gil Kenan (a protégé of Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis) and produced by Sam Raimi, with Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt stepping into the roles of the terrorized suburban parents who lose their child to an otherworldly netherworld. (Jared Harris is the paranormal investigator who helps them out.) It'll be hard to recapture the magic of the original film, especially since it so perfectly sent up the politics of the time. Not sure what the satiric bent of the new film will be (or if it will even be there at all), but we hope it scares us silly just the same.

'Grimsby' (July 31st, 2015)

The third spy genre send-up of 2015 (for those of you playing at home) is "Grimsby," an action comedy co-written by and starring Sacha Baron Cohen as a dim-witted soccer hooligan who becomes a secret agent. The cast is pretty starry and fun (including Mark Strong, Rebel Wilson, Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, and one of our absolute favorites, Scott Adkins) and the film was directed by Louis Leterrier, who helmed the first "Transporter" film and Marvel's "The Incredible Hulk," so the action sequences will undoubtedly have some much-needed zip. At the very least this will hopefully make us forget, once and for all, about "The Dictator."

'The Fantastic Four' (August 7th, 2015)

If you are still scarred from the two abysmal "Fantastic Four" movies that came out in 2005 and 2007 (those movies featured a pre-Captain America Chris Evans as the Human Torch... and not much else), the approach is very different for this movie. The director, Josh Trank, is a low budget favorite, having successfully molded the found footage genre to superhero conventions with "Chronicle" and his aim here is to tell an earthier origin story for the superhero team. This time Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic is played by Miles Teller, Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman will be played by Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell is The Thing. Most interestingly is the casting of Michael B. Jordan, the talented young actor from "Fruitvale Station," as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch, since traditionally the character is white (and Susan's younger brother). However they explain it, we're just happy to have a little diversity in the superhero field.

'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' (August 14th, 2015)

After making "Sherlock Holmes" cool again, Guy Ritchie and his writing/producing partner Lionel Wigram have set their sights on "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," the NBC spy series that ran for more than 100 episodes starting in 1964 (interestingly, it ran first in black-and-white and then in color -- ah, the technological advancements of the time). The adaptation was originally hatched by Steven Soderbergh and designed to be his final film before retiring, with George Clooney in the lead role. After an injury Clooney sustained while shooting "Syriana" flared up again, he bowed out, at which point Warner Bros. got nervous about Soderbergh's retro-futuristic vision for the film... Although that doesn't seem all that different from Ritchie's version, now starring Henry Cavill as Napoleon Solo, an American secret agent, and Armie Hammer as his Russian counterpart, who join forces to stop an evil organization, all against the backdrop of the Cold War. Quite frankly, with the oodles of style and flash that Ritchie will undoubtedly bring to the table, and a hip cast (Hugh Grant, Alicia Vikander, and Jared Harris also star), we're fairly sure that it will be a hoot, even without Clooney.

'Straight Outta Compton' (August 14th, 2015)

At a recent concert, Ice Cube showed a red band trailer for "Straight Outta Compton," the biopic centered around Cube's influential eighties-into-nineties rap outfit NWA. Somebody recorded the footage and posted it online. And it is awesome. The movie stars three unknowns as the main participants – Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E (who died when he was 30 from complications related to AIDS), Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre and O'Shea Jackson, Jr. as Ice Cube – and was directed by F. Gary Gray, who has a history with Cube, having directed him in the breakthrough comedy "Friday." The musical biopic genre is an unusually stuffy, predictable genre, and this looks like it's going to explode the conventions in the coolest way possible. Could you expect anything else from the story of NWA?

'Everest' (September 18th, 2015)

In 1996, eight people were caught in a blizzard while climbing Mount Everest and died. This was a terribly deadly season for the peak (fifteen people died that year; it was the worst season for the mountain until an avalanche killed 16 people in 2014). "Everest" is the 3D dramatization of that failed attempt at scaling the peak. So expect it to be exciting and very, very sad. The cast is really terrific, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, and Emily Watson, with tense direction handled by Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur. Also: 3D. We can hear the audiences' teeth rattling already.

'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' (September 18th, 2015)

Like "Insurgent," this is the sequel to a moderately popular YA adaptation, opening less than a year after the first installment. This still won't challenge the "Hunger Games" throne but it is moderately entertaining and powerfully gloomy.

'Black Mass' (September 18th, 2015)

True crime tales don't get much more twisted than the saga of Whitey Bulger, a Boston crime lord and mass murder who worked under the protection of the FBI for at least some of his criminal career. (Seriously, if you want to know more about the story, check out the terrific documentary from last year, "Whitey: United States of America vs. James J. Bulger." It's insane.) Of course, a true crime story is only as good as its cast, and "Black Mass" has that in spades -- Johnny Depp plays Whitey, Benedict Cumberbatch is his son, and Joel Edgerton is the FBI agent hot on his trail. Other cast members include Kevin Bacon, Jesse Plemons, Sienna Miller, Dakota Johnson, Adam Scott, Rory Cochrane and Corey Stoll. And after some wrangling for the job, the final film was written and directed by Scott Cooper, who made "Crazy Heart." The only worrisome aspect of the film is the similarities between the real life case and "The Departed," which incorporated elements from the case.

'Hotel Transylvania 2' (September 25th, 2015)

The original "Hotel Transylvania" was a monster mash that turned into a graveyard smash, so a sequel was more or less assured. What's lovely about the sequel is that Genndy Tartakovsky is back to direct, from a script by comedy legend Robert Smigel, and Mel Brooks joins the cast as Dracula's father. The first film was fun but forgettable, let's hope the sequel has a little more, er, bite.

'London Has Fallen' (October 2nd, 2015)

A sequel to 2013's White House under siege movie "Olympus Has Fallen" (a.k.a. the White House movie that didn't star Channing Tatum), "London Has Fallen" reunites Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, and a whole bunch of actors that really need work (Angela Bassett, Robert Forster, Melissa Leo, Radha Mitchell, Jackie Earle Haley). This new movie obviously involves a crazy terrorist operation in London and Butler killing a whole bunch of people.

'Victor Frankenstein' (October 2nd, 2015)

Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" is a horror story that has been retold countless times but never with this slant: this version is told from the point of view of Victor Frankenstein's (James McAvoy) hunchback assistant Igor (played by Daniel Radcliffe). Expect this version to be edgy and weird, especially since the screenplay was furnished by outspoken Internet lightning rod Max Landis -- and just in time for Halloween!

'The Walk' (October 2nd, 2015)

The 2008 British documentary "Man on Wire" (by "Theory of Everything" director James Marsh) chronicled the daring high-wire walk between the Twin Towers in 1974 by French acrobat Philippe Petit. "The Walk" is the dramatic retelling of this event, and since the adaptation is being handled by the technologically minded Robert Zemeckis, expect the titular walk to be rendered in eye-popping IMAX 3D. Seriously -- you are going to feel like you're walking in between those buildings. Anybody who saw the Dubai sequence from "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" can attest to the vertigo-inducing power of IMAX. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Petit alongside co-stars Ben Kingsley and James Badge Dale, with a score by Zemeckis's frequent collaborator Alan Silvestri. We only say that because we know that the "Back to the Future" theme is your ring tone.

'The Jungle Book' (October 9th, 2015)

There are two "Jungle Book" adaptations being developed in Hollywood currently; the first to make it to theaters is Disney's version, directed by "Iron Man" filmmaker Jon Favreau and featuring an all-star cast voicing the various animals -- Idris Elba is Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley is Bagheera, Christopher Walken is King Louie, Scarlett Johansson is Kaa, Lupita Nyong'o is Raksha, and Bill Murray is Baloo. While nobody has seen anything from the movie, expect it to be visually stunning and really very fun, leaning heavily on the Disney animated feature of the same name. Oh, and the rival project won't be out until the fall of 2017. At which point you might be "Jungle Book"-ed out.

'Vacation' (October 9th, 2015)

Considering Hollywood's obsession with refashioning '80s pop culture artifacts for modern audiences, it's no surprise that current filmmakers would set their sights on an update of "National Lampoon's Vacation," except that it's not entirely a reboot and the "National Lampoon" distinction is nowhere to be found. Instead, this is a pseudo-sequel, following a grown-up Rusty Griswold (played by Ed Helms) who travels with his wife (Christina Applegate) and their two children to Wally World, shortly before it closes forever. So it is a remake, sort of, but Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo pop up as the elder Griswolds, with a cast that is rounded out by the very funny Leslie Mann, Charlie Day, Chris Hemsworth, Keegan-Michael Key, Tim Heidecker, and Michael Pena. Like your own family vacation, it's probably good advice to just wish for the best and hope we all get through this unscathed.

'St. James Place' (October 16th, 2015)

For a director as prolific as Steven Spielberg, it seems odd that he hasn't made a film since 2012's "Lincoln." He's flirted with a number of projects -- most notably "American Sniper" (which ultimately went to his buddy Clint Eastwood) and sci-fi epic "Robopocalypse" (canceled at the last minute amid budget concerns) -- until he finally settled on "St. James Place," the incredible true life tale of a lawyer (played by Tom Hanks) who gets involved in Cold War espionage when he's tasked with negotiating the release of an American pilot who was shot down in the USSR and held captive afterwards. Spielberg fashioned the story into a conspiratorial thriller with a script co-authored by the Coen Brothers and a cast that includes Amy Ryan, Alan Alda and Mark Rylance, they should just preemptively give this movie all the Oscars. What's the point, really?

'Crimson Peak' (October 16th, 2015)

Director Guillermo del Toro knows how to do scary. This is the man who turned fairy tales into nightmares in "Pan's Labyrinth" and made the Spanish Civil War even more horrific by adding a spooky ghost in "The Devil's Backbone." But both of these movies were made in his native Spanish language; now he's ready to scare English-speaking audiences. The movie concerns a young author (Mia Wasikowska, filling in for a recently departed Emma Stone) in 19th century England whose husband (Tom Hiddleston, filling in for Benedict Cumberbatch, who also left shortly before production began) isn't exactly everything that he appears to be. Yes, there is something spooky afoot! Del Toro looked towards Gothic horror of yore, but adding in a lot of sex and violence for modern audiences. The footage we saw at this year's San Diego Comic Con was ravishing; not only do we want to see "Crimson Peak" but we want to move into the titular mansion.

'The Peanuts Movie' (November 6th, 2015)

Amazingly, this is the first feature-length adaptation of Charles Schultz's beloved comic strip characters. Animated by Greenwich, Connecticut's Blue Sky Studios (the folks behind the "Ice Age" and "Rio" movies), "The Peanuts Movie" features archival audio recordings of Bill Melendez, who did many of the immortal television specials and a more expansive array of Schultz characters. The trailer for the film was charming and fanciful; yes it's 3D computer animation but it retains the squiggly spirit of the original illustrations, and that's saying a lot.

'Spectre' (November 6th, 2015)

"Spectre" is the sinister-sounding name of the new James Bond movie (the 24th canonical entry), and, like any good James Bond movie, it is shrouded in secrecy. Still, there are some things that we do know: Daniel Craig will be back as 007, reteaming with the group that made "Skyfall" the first installment in the franchise to gross over $1 billion worldwide: director Sam Mendes and writers John Logan, Robert Wade and Neal Purvis. Also back from "Skyfall" will be Ralph Fiennes as the new M, Ben Whishaw as the new Q and Naomi Harris as the new Moneypenny. New to the franchise are Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci as two insanely sexy Bond girls (we're betting Bellucci will be the bad girl), Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx, a villain, and Christoph Waltz as Franz Oberhauser, who has nefarious ties to the titular evil organization.

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2' (November 20th, 2015)

It all comes down to this. Katniss (Jennifer Lawerence) has gone, over the course of the three previous "Hunger Games," from an unwilling participant and political puppet to the leader of a revolutionary rebellion and this fourth and final film should culminate with a giant battle of some sort. At least we're hoping for that. There wasn't a lot of action in the last one was there?

'The Good Dinosaur' (November 25th, 2015)

Maybe the most troubled Pixar movie to ever get a release, "The Good Dinosaur" was originally scheduled to come out Summer 2014, but problems with the production pushed it back more than a year; accommodating the creative reconfiguration that included firing the original director and replacing him with his co-director (with additional help from Pixar's Brain Trust). Now the movie looks like it's in good shape, and follows a dinosaur named Arlo (Lucas Neff) on a version of Earth where the meteor that killed the dinosaurs missed entirely. Humans and dinosaurs are evolving side-by-side, although humans haven't progressed much beyond cavemen. After a tragic event separates him from his family, Arlo goes on an adventure with a young caveman he names Spot, in an attempt to reunite with his family. So, yes, this will be the cutest paleontological romp of 2015 (sorry, "Jurassic World," you're too scary).

'The Martian' (November 25th, 2015)

Based on a best-selling e-book, "The Martian" sees director Ridley Scott return to the realm of science fiction (emphasis on the science) after making landmark classics like "Alien" and "Blade Runner" (and, depending on who you talk to, "Prometheus"). In "The Martian," Matt Damon plays an American astronaut who is stranded on Mars by himself and has to figure out a way to survive. Early plot synopses described it as something like "Cast Away" with a sci-fi bent, and the script, by "Cabin in the Woods" director Drew Goddard, was certainly good enough to attract an all-star cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Kristen Wiig, and Kate Mara. Hopefully it's a rousing return to form for Sir Ridley after getting bogged down with the biblical excess of "Exodus: Gods and Kings."

'Midnight Special' (November 25th, 2015)

Jeff Nichols is one of the most exciting filmmakers working in independent films, having crafted taut, micro-sized genre masterworks in "Take Shelter" and "Mud," and now he's going to break out to the big time with "Midnight Special," a science fiction chase film that he says is heavily influenced by the work of John Carpenter (so look for lots of lens flares, a squishy 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and roughhewn working class heroes). While plot details have been deliberately obscured, it supposedly concerns a young boy with magical powers and the nefarious government agents on his trail (Michael Shannon, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver, and Joel Edgerton star). We are so ready for Nichols to make a splash on the studio level and having talked to the director during the press rounds for "Mud," he is really passionate about this project; we're getting goosebumps already.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' (December 18th, 2015)

We're pretty sure that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is everyone's #1 most anticipated movie of 2015; it's inclusion here is just a formality. After all, the 88-second teaser trailer for the J.J. Abrams movie (which takes place 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi"), released at Thanksgiving, has become the most watched clip in the history of the Internet. Good lord. So let's just cover the bases one last time: the cast includes familiar faces (Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill) and brand new personalities (John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac) and, true to the title, see what happens when the Force is rekindled, for good and bad. Oh -- and that cute little droid from the trailer, BB-88, the one that looks like a soccer ball, was actually a practical effect and not created in the computer. How cool is that?

'Mission: Impossible 5' (December 25th, 2015)

Tom Cruise is back in the franchise that keeps on ticking. Who would have thought that the fourth film in the franchise, "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol," would inject new life into the series and revitalize it to the point that the fifth film is easily one of our most anticipated movies of the year. Cruise's "Jack Reacher" director Christopher McQuarrie (who contributed uncredited script re-writes on the last movie) assumes the captain's chair, for another globe-trotting spy thriller that features previous cast members Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames and some new faces as well (Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris and Alec Baldwin). This is your mission, should you choose to accept it, and you probably will.

'The Hateful Eight' (December 25th, 2015 - probably)

While the release date for Quentin Tarantino's latest bloodbath has yet to be locked down, Christmas Day is as safe a bet as anything, especially considering its Oscar pedigree and the fact that the writer-director's last film, the Oscar-winning "Django Unchained," opened on Christmas Day in 2012. "The Hateful Eight" is another western, this time centered around the titular cluster of outlaws, lawmen, and rebels who are seeking refuge from a gusty winter storm in the years following the Civil War. The Hateful Eight are played by Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walt Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Demian Bichir, and Kurt Russell, with a smaller role played by Channing Tatum. While it's somewhat disappointing that Tarantino is returning to the western well, it's kind of a miracle this movie is coming out at all -- after the script leaked last year, Tarantino said that he was going to shelve the project altogether, but after a live reading of the original screenplay, Tarantino re-wrote the ending and got engaged in the project once again. Look for it to be filmed almost entirely in 70 mm; production begins soon (keep an eye on Samuel L. Jackson's Instagram account for further updates). And honestly, any Tarantino film is better than no Tarantino film at all.

A few notes about our rundown: firstly, there will be tons of movies that make their debuts at festivals throughout the year and manage to capture something that propels them into the zeitgeist (as if anyone even know what "Whiplash" was at this point last year), so it's good to keep that in mind. There are also a bunch of movies that we are ridiculously excited about that we didn't include on the list simply because they didn't have a release date (like Terrence Malick's "Knight of Cubs," Todd Haynes's "Carol," and Richard Linklater's "That's What I'm Talking About") and others that didn't even have titles (please Cameron Crowe, just title your new movie "Deep Tiki" and let's move on with our lives). Sometimes you actually need information to write about it, even speculatively.

So, with all of that in mind, please take a look at the year ahead, and the nearly 80 movies that you'll probably be in the mood to see. As always, you know where to look for movie times, interviews, reviews, and behind-the-scenes action. That's right, Moviefone.
